Why Breast Augmentation?

Breast augmentation is a cosmetic surgery procedure that increases breast size and improves breast shape. For a woman who has never been happy with her breast size or fullness, augmentation is a long-term solution that can improve both her look and her outlook. Women also choose breast augmentation to restore lost volume following pregnancy or weight loss.

Whatever your reason, Dr. Stridde is known for his extensive experience and training in the most current surgical innovations, including the latest generation of gel implants. He can provide you with a naturally enhanced look that is balanced and proportional.

Your Consultation

During your consultation, Dr. Stridde will ask you to describe the improvements you'd like to see and your motivations for seeking surgery. He will perform an exam and then guide you through the breast augmentation decision-making process, reviewing your choices for breast implants and surgical technique. Along the way, he makes recommendations, shares his preferences, and takes the time to explain in detail the various options and trade-offs. Procedures he may discuss include:

  • Breast lift: If you're bothered by sagginess, also called ptosis, Dr. Stridde may recommend breast lift surgery instead of, or in addition to, your breast augmentation. This procedure is commonly performed at the same time as breast augmentation, and it repositions the breasts to a higher, more youthful-looking placement on the chest.
  • "Super natural" breast augmentation: Women in search of a very natural-looking result may be candidates for "super natural" breast augmentation, a modified version of the surgery that includes highly cohesive silicone gel implants ("gummy bears") and yields softer, more realistic outcomes.
  • Fat transfer: A natural alternative to breast implants, fat transfer uses the patient's own body fat to enhance the breasts. Dr. Stridde also uses fat transfer to help hide breast implants and to add fullness to the upper breasts.

Personalizing Your Procedure

In addition to helping you choose your implants, Dr. Stridde will help you select the locations for your incisions and implants. These decisions depend on the size and type of implants you choose as well as personal preference.

Incision Location

In most cases, Dr. Stridde uses an inframammary incision where the scar is nicely concealed along the breast crease. This incision enables him to place both saline and silicone implants of a variety of sizes. Other incision options include the periareolar incision (along the lower areola) and transaxillary incision (in a crease of the underarm).

Implant Placement

To provide the most natural-looking results, Dr. Stridde typically places the breast implants under the chest muscle in a submuscular position. This option usually conceals the top edge of the implant and provides a gentle slope from the upper breast down to the lower breast. In certain cases, Dr. Stridde may use a subglandular placement, where the implant is between the breast tissue and the chest muscle.

Your Breast Augmentation

Breast augmentation surgery is usually performed as an outpatient procedure that takes about 1 to 2 hours to complete. General anesthesia is administered under the care of a board-certified anesthesiologist.

Dr. Stridde makes the incisions as small as possible and places them where they are well-concealed. He creates a pocket behind each breast, usually under the chest muscle, and then inserts the implants. When he has achieved the desired breast size, shape, and symmetry, he closes the incisions with tiny stitches that are then covered with surgical dressings.

Recovery After Surgery

After breast augmentation surgery, your breasts will be supported with a post-surgical bra to aid in recovery, and you'll be sent home to rest in comfort. All of Dr. Stridde's breast augmentation patients receive prescriptions for an adequate supply of pain medication. Some discomfort and lack of energy are common for the first few days, and many women find it helpful to have a friend or loved one to help them around the house for 1 or 2 days after their surgery.

A degree of swelling is common, but should steadily diminish over 4 to 6 weeks. You'll be required to wear a surgical support bra to protect your results for a few weeks after the procedure. Dr. Stridde makes every effort to minimize scarring, and scars should begin to lighten and fade after a few months. You should be ready to return to work in about 3 to 7 days.

Follow-Up After Breast Augmentation in Kirkland With Dr. Stridde

Enjoying Your Results

Although your augmented breasts may initially be high and firm, they'll gradually settle into a more natural-looking position as the muscles stretch and the tissues soften. During your follow-up appointments, Dr. Stridde evaluates your results to ensure this process proceeds on schedule.

In the long-term, your breast implants can last for many years, especially if you live a healthy lifestyle and follow Dr. Stridde's post-surgical instructions. Today's implants are stronger and more resilient than ever, and many women report "life spans" of more than 15 years.
