Mommy Body 2.0; What a mommy-makeover can do for you!

The joys of motherhood are priceless but the effects of pregnancy on your body can sometimes be drastic. During those nine months, when carrying your baby, your body can change in ways that you never expected it to.  Some women are fortunate and they are able to bounce right back to their pre-pregnancy bodies in no time while others struggle for what can seem like an eternity to even get even close to what they looked like before they had children.  Moreover, even if you have been able lose that extra baby-fat you may be disappointed to know that your body has permanently changed and no amount of exercise seems to restore your body to its pre-baby self.  If this describes you, say “hello” to Mommy Body 2.0 aka The Mommy Makeover; a combination of surgical procedures that restores what has been lost and gets rid of what’s become more permanent.

So what exactly is a Mommy Makeover?

A Mommy Makeover is a term used to describe the rejuvenation of the areas of the body most affected by pregnancy; namely the breasts and the abdomen.  There are a variety of procedures available which are chosen to fit your specific needs.

Prior to pregnancy you may have been blessed with breasts that were a perfect size and shape but after both pregnancy and breast-feeding they may now be sagging or have lost tissue or both! This happens because during pregnancy and breast-feeding, the breasts are greatly affected by hormonal changes. Once hormones decline the breast tissue deflates and the stretched skin looses its elasticity resulting in a flattened and droopy appearance.  A breast enhancement procedure can correct these concerns. Mommy Makeover Breast Procedures consist of:

  • Breast Augmentation: For women who have experienced a decrease in breast size and volume but are happy with the shape of their breasts, a breast augmentation procedure will restore fullness and add projection. Implant choices include saline as well as new generation, highly cohesive round and shaped-gel implants.
  • Breast Lift (Mastopexy): For women who are satisfied with the size of their breasts but wish they would sit higher on their chest wall then a mastopexy procedure (breast lift) may be the best option for you. A breast lift reduces the excess skin and reshapes and elevates the breast tissue and nipple.
  • Breast Augmentation and Breast Lift (Mastopexy): For women who are experiencing both loss of volume and sagging skin, a breast lift with implant is recommended. Depending on your specific needs this procedure may be performed in one or two stages.

Your Tummy

With all the stress that’s put on the abdomen during pregnancy or with weight gain and loss—it’s no wonder that as we age, the shape and size of our stomachs change. When diet and exercise do not provide the results that you want, a surgical procedure like a tummy tuck may be your best option, assuming you are a good candidate for this procedure.

A tummy tuck restores the shape of your stomach, tightens the muscles and removes any loose skin. During the procedure an incision is made across the lower abdomen just above the pubic bone (your scar, once healed, will be concealed by bathing suits and underwear), your rectus abdominas (six-pack) muscles are pulled and sutured together then tissue and skin from just above your belly button to your pubic area is pulled tight and excess skin is removed.

Depending on the extent of your particular post-pregnancy concerns, there are a variety of tummy tuck procedures that treat different degrees of muscle and skin laxity. Some procedures are performed with limited incisions and leave shorter scars.

It’s important to note that while this amazingly effective surgical procedure can be life changing it also requires a few weeks of recovery time. In an effort to provide as much post-procedure comfort as possible Dr. Stridde is pleased to offer EXPAREL®, a local anesthetic that produces numbness  in the area of the body where it is injected. Exparel® is injected into the tissues during your tummy tuck surgery to reduce pain at the source for up to 72 hours after your procedure thereby reducing your need for narcotic pain medication.

Liposuction Body Contouring is a procedure that reduces areas of fat excess to improve body contour and shape. There are a number of liposuction techniques available including laser liposuction, ultrasonic liposuction and power assisted liposuction. They vary in the way that fat cells are destroyed and removed but all are effective in removing fat that is resistant to diet and exercise resulting in a long lasting change. A perfect adjunct to the Mommy Makeover Procedure!
