Tummy Tuck Candidates
A tummy tuck, technically called abdominoplasty, can help you attain a more sculpted abdomen, but the procedure will not correct generalized obesity. Patients ideally suited for this procedure should have a BMI (Body Mass Index) of 29 or less. Abdominoplasty is meant to provide body contouring, not weight loss.
Your Tummy Tuck Surgery
Dr. Stridde performs tummy tuck surgery while the patient is under general anesthesia. After making an incision across the lower abdomen, he trims excess skin and fat tissue and retightens loose abdominal muscles. Once these areas of the abdomen have been reshaped, the incision is closed, and the belly button is recreated. Most patients who choose tummy tuck surgery at our surgery center are able to go home the same day and can return to their usual daily activities in about 2 weeks.
A tummy tuck is an excellent procedure for mothers who want to erase the physical effects of pregnancy. In fact, the procedure often is combined with breast enhancement surgery such as breast augmentation at our Seattle area practice for a customized Mommy Makeover procedure. Abdominoplasty is also appropriate for women and men who have achieved significant weight loss through bariatric surgery or their own diet and exercise plan.
A Better Experience
To improve your comfort, Dr. Stridde is now offering a new FDA-approved numbing agent called EXPAREL®. This innovative medication combines the local anesthetic vupivacaine within a slow release liposome to provide lasting relief for 72 hours or more after surgery. EXPAREL greatly reduces the need for narcotic medication and enables patients to get up and move around much sooner and easier with less discomfort.
Dr. Stridde has found this treatment to be a much more convenient option for pain management than traditional pain pumps. With EXPAREL, the medication is placed in the incision during the time of surgery and slowly releases over the course of 72 hours. There are no external tubes and drains to be carried around with you, like there are with pain pumps. EXPAREL makes recovery simpler and much more tolerable.

Recovery after Surgery
Tummy tuck surgeon Dr. Braden Stridde will provide post-operative instructions on caring for your incisions and bathing techniques. You will be encouraged to start walking as soon as possible to help your body heal and guard against the risk of blood clot formation. A support garment will help protect the surgical area and improve the cosmetic outcome of your body contouring procedure.
You can begin adding exercise back into your routine after a few weeks, but vigorous exercise needs to be avoided until your incisions have healed sufficiently. Scars should begin to lighten and flatten out within 3 to 6 months and may continue to improve for up to a year. Dr. Stridde takes steps to minimize the appearance of scars and place scars where they will be well concealed in a bathing suit or underwear. To enjoy your results for the long-term, continue to eat healthful foods and exercise regularly.
