What is Liposculpture?
Liposculpture is an advanced liposuction technique that reshapes your body contour through removal of excess fat cells. Body shape is influenced by the amount and location of fat cells, which are distributed throughout the body based on heredity (family traits), gender, and individual characteristics. Our patients appreciate that the procedure can treat disproportionate and localized accumulations of body fat.
Liposculpture is a cosmetic procedure and is not meant to achieve weight loss or treat obesity. By itself, the procedure typically does not tighten loose skin. Ideal candidates are within a healthy weight range and have firm, elastic skin tone so that their skin will re-contour to their slimmer shape.
Why Choose Liposculpture?
This procedure can improve body contour, re-establish better body proportions, and improve your appearance both in and out of clothing. Once removed, fat cells do not re-form; therefore, removing a number of fat cells in an area of the body will produce a contour change in the area that is expected to be long lasting. While you will have fewer fat cells after liposuction, the size of the fat cells left behind is largely up to you. If body weight is maintained, you should be able to enjoy your results for many years. Subsequent changes in body contour may occur as a result of aging, weight fluctuations, pregnancy, or other factors.
Liposuction can dramatically improve body profile. Keep in mind that slight asymmentry may occur after surgery, which can be improved with a touch up procedure if necessary. Liposculpture can be performed in conjunction with a tummy tuck, as part of a Mommy Makeover, post weight loss surgery, or along with other body contouring options.
To offer you the best possible liposuction results, Puget Sound Plastic Surgery features the latest technologic advances in liposuction enhancements, including:
- VASER® Lipo uses ultrasound energy to break up and liquefy the targeted fat.
- Smartlipo™ uses a laser tipped probe to melt the unwanted fat. Laser liposuction gives Seattle area patients precise fat removal for delicate areas such as the chin.
These technologies are used to enhance traditional tumescent liposuction by making fat removal gentler for quicker recovery. The emulsified fat can be removed with gentle suction through tiny incisions, providing a more smooth and even result with less bruising than the tumescent method alone.
Your Liposuction Procedure
Dr. Stridde performs liposuction with the patient under general anesthesia, conscious sedation with local anesthesia, or oral sedation and local anesthesia, depending on the amount and number of areas being treated. At our practice in Seattle, we use tumescent liposuction, which infuses the area with an anesthetic solution, greatly reduces discomfort, bleeding, and bruising. The fat is removed with suction through a long thin tube called a cannula. Incisions are closed with fine sutures before dressings, and depending on the treatment area, foam padding and support garments are applied. These garments must be worn continuously the first 2 weeks after surgery, and as much as possible the following 2 weeks.
Recovery After Surgery
Varying amounts of bruising, discoloration, and swelling should be expected in the areas that have been treated. After receiving liposuction, patients can expect a moderate degree of discomfort and pain, and there may be some temporary numbness in the treated areas. Much of the discoloration and swelling should resolve in the first 2 weeks, but further maturation, softening, and decrease in swelling will occur slowly over a 2 to 3 month period.
