Otoplasty (Ear Shaping)
Having ears that stick out far from your head can be a constant source of ridicule and self consciousness for both children and adults. Thankfully, there's a cosmetic surgery procedure Seattle area plastic surgeon Dr. Braden Stridde can perform to make the ears appear smaller and sit closer to the head. This procedure, known as otoplasty, is relatively simple to perform and involves a quick recovery for most patients.
Dr. Stridde has experience performing this procedure for both children and adults. In fact, ear shaping is the most commonly performed procedure for children at the practice. If you or your child could benefit from a more proportionate ear appearance, our Seattle otoplasty surgeon can help.
Devoted to providing personal care in a comfortable setting, Braden Stridde, M.D., is a board-certified plastic surgeon who looks forward to meeting you.Meet

Your Otoplasty Procedure
To correct the appearance of protruding ears, Dr. Stridde will begin the surgery by making a small incision behind each ear. Through this incision he can access ear cartilage, reshaping or removing tissue as needed to adjust the ear position so it sits closer to the head. In most cases ear shaping can be performed in 2 to 3 hours. He also can perform other ear surgeries to correct congenital deformities or repair injuries - he is happy to provide more details about these types of surgery during your consultation.

Recovery after Surgery
Most adults need only local anesthesia with conscious sedation for their procedure and are ready to return home soon after surgery is complete. However, children may need general anesthesia and parents may want their child to fully recover from the effects of anesthesia before taking them home.
Some swelling will occur around the ears, often accompanied by discoloration and a certain amount of discomfort, which can be easily addressed with pain medications. Patients need to wear a bandage around their head for 2 to 5 days after surgery to hold their ears in place, and a smaller elastic headband will then be worn during sleep for about 2 weeks.
Scars are well-hidden in the folds behind the ear and are not a concern for most people. Seattle area plastic surgeon Dr. Stridde usually clears children to return to school and adults to work within a week after surgery.
There's no reason to feel self conscious about your ear appearance or leave your child open to ridicule when ear shaping surgery can easily improve the aesthetics of the ear. Request your complimentary consultation online with Dr. Stridde at Puget Sound Plastic Surgery, or call our office at
