Breast Reduction

It seems like every week there's another great reason to get out and about in Seattle. Breast reduction helps women with uncomfortably large and sagging breasts to gain greater freedom and feel better about their breast appearance. With a more manageable breast size, you'll be ready to enjoy all life here in the Pacific Northwest has to offer. Reduction usually is performed after a woman's breasts are fully developed, but the procedure may be appropriate for teens who are experiencing serious discomfort.

Breast reduction cosmetic surgery in Seattle is often covered by medical insurance, but most plans require certain criteria are met before insurance coverage is confirmed. Check with your insurance plan about policy limitations and come in for an examination by Dr. Stridde to determine if your procedure is likely to be covered by insurance.

Your Seattle-Area Breast Reduction

Preparing for breast reduction is easy. You'll receive detailed pre-operative instructions from your surgeon, which you must follow closely. Smokers and women taking certain medications will be required to quit for some period before and after the procedure. Before surgery, stock up on ice, comfortable clothing, and movies, magazines, or other reading material to make your recovery more enjoyable.

Most often Dr. Stridde performs breast reduction as an outpatient surgery. The procedure is performed under general anesthesia and takes from 2 to 4 hours depending on each woman's needs. Incisions are placed around the areola, extending below the areola, and within the fold underneath the breast. The incisions will leave scars which for most women fades over time.

Our Seattle breast reduction patients say that the scars inherently necessary in a breast reduction procedure are a more than a worthwhile tradeoff to achieve greater breast comfort, improved breast shape, and increased freedom to enjoy a broad range of activities.

Recovery after Surgery

Many women are surprised to find that they experience less discomfort following breast reduction than they expected. In general, you should be able to return to your job and other daily activities within 2 weeks. Dr. Stridde makes every effort to preserve nipple sensation and the ability to breastfeed after surgery, but in some cases these functions can be lost. He will take the time to thoroughly review these issues and answer all your questions during the consultation. After they've fully recovered, breast reduction patients are usually highly satisfied with the results of their surgery.
