What Is Liposculpture?
Liposculpture is an advanced liposuction technique that reshapes your body contour through removal of excess fat cells. Body shape is influenced by the amount and location of fat cells, which are distributed throughout the body. A number of different factors can affect our fat distribution, including heredity and gender – making certain fat deposits harder to shrink, even with diet and exercise. Men and women who turn to liposuction appreciate that the procedure can treat disproportionate or localized accumulations of fat when their healthy lifestyles fall short.
Liposculpture is a cosmetic procedure and is not meant to achieve weight loss or treat obesity. By itself, the procedure typically does not tighten loose skin. You may be a good candidate for liposuction if you:
- Are within a healthy BMI range
- Have firm, elastic skin
- Are bothered by specific areas of fat that persist despite dieting and exercise
- Don't smoke or are able to quit well in advance of your surgery
Why Choose Liposculpture?
This procedure can improve body contour, create better body proportions, and improve your appearance – both in and out of clothing. Once removed, fat cells in adult humans don't regenerate, so once they're gone, they're gone for good. However, while you'll have fewer fat cells after liposuction, your remaining fat cells can still expand in relation to your lifestyle. If you maintain your body weight with good diet and exercise habits, you'll likely enjoy your results for many years. However, subsequent changes in your body contours may occur as a result of aging, pregnancy, or other factors.
Liposuction is a versatile procedure that can dramatically improve your silhouette. Using advanced techniques, Dr. Stridde can reduce very small areas of fat around your neck or chin, or focus on larger areas, such as your abdomen, flanks, or buttocks. During your consultation, you work together to determine the surgical plan that meets your needs.

To offer you the best possible liposuction results, Puget Sound Plastic Surgery features the latest technologic advances in liposuction enhancements, including:
- VASER® Lipo, which uses ultrasound energy to break apart and liquefy targeted fat, making it easier to remove.
- Smartlipo™, which uses a laser-tipped probe to melt unwanted fat before removal. Laser liposuction can offer an additional option for patients in search of precise fat removal in delicate areas, such as the chin.
These technologies are used to enhance traditional liposuction by making fat removal gentler, leading to a faster recuperation. The emulsified fat can be removed through tiny incisions using gentle suction, providing a smoother, more even result with less bruising than the traditional tumescent method alone. During your consultation, Dr. Stridde evaluates your candidacy for these options.
Your Liposuction Procedure
Dr. Stridde may perform your liposuction while you are under general anesthesia, conscious sedation with local anesthesia, or oral sedation and local anesthesia, depending on the amount and number of areas being treated. At Puget Sound Plastic Surgery, we use tumescent liposuction. During this procedure, Dr. Stridde infuses the area with an anesthetic solution to greatly reduce discomfort, bleeding, and bruising. He makes several small incisions near the targeted fat and uses a long, thin tube called a cannula to remove it with the aid of suction. He closes the incisions with fine sutures before he applies dressings, and depending on the treatment area, foam padding and support garments. These garments must be worn continuously the first 2 weeks after surgery, and as much as possible the following 2 weeks.

Recovery After Surgery
You should expect to see varying amounts of bruising, discoloration, and swelling, depending on the areas you had treated. After your procedure, you can expect a moderate amount of discomfort and pain, and you may experience some temporary numbness in the treated areas. Much of the discoloration and swelling should resolve in the first 2 weeks, but further maturation, softening, and decrease in swelling will happen gradually over a period of 2 to 3 months. During your consultation, Dr. Stridde gives you a more specific idea of what you can expect while you heal from your customized procedure.
