This is a highly demanding standard of certification and is the same standard that hospital-based surgery centers adhere to.

Unfortunately today some less qualified physicians will cut corners and attempt to perform significant surgical procedures in non-certified O.R. facilities. As a result, if you are considering cosmetic or reconstructive plastic surgery you need to ensure that any doctor you meet with has sufficient concern about your well-being to only use an accredited surgical facility.

All members of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons are required to report, on an annual basis, the type of accreditation of the surgical facility that they use. Surgeons who do not use accredited facilities cannot remain members in good standing.
