Microdermabrasion Skin Resurfacing
Microdermabrasion skin resurfacing is a non-surgical procedure that offers
safe and controlled skin exfoliation. Smooth, softer skin is seen even
after just one treatment. With continued treatment, microdermabrasion
helps balance both dry and oily skin, smoothes fine lines and wrinkles,
and eliminates skin discoloration; it is also effective in treating various
grades of acne (clogged pores and scars). For best results, this procedure
should be performed in a series – one treatment a week for 6-8 weeks,
followed by a maintenance schedule recommended by our staff.

Superficial Blood Vessel Treatment (Spider Veins)
If you’ve ever been concerned about so called blood vessels just
underneath your skin, you might want to consider a vascular laser treatment.
These small unsightly vessels can occur on the face and anywhere on your
legs from thighs to ankles. Our Sciton laser is very effective in “zapping
away” these annoying vessels, leaving a much cleaner look to your
skin. Contact
Puget Sound Plastic Surgery for more information about treating superficial
blood vessels.

Laser Photorejuvenation - Nlite Laser
Laser photorejuvenation is a skin treatment that uses a laser to reverse
the effects of general aging and sun damage on the skin. A less intensive
procedure than laser resurfacing, laser photorejuvenation is a non-invasive
treatment that does not harm the skin, allowing for a shorter recovery
time. The number of treatments, timing, and combining the laser treatment
with BOTOX® Cosmetic or
other skin treatments can all have an effect on the final outcome. We
continue to refine our treatment protocols to ensure that you get the
best results.
The Nlite laser was specifically designed to pass through the surface
of skin without causing any injury. There is essentially no recovery,
and while there is no immediate change visible on the skin surface,
the laser has started the process of wrinkle reduction in the deeper
layers of the skin. The Nlite laser works by stimulating the microscopic
blood vessels beneath the skin surface. These vessels produce a chemical
messenger, which sends a signal to surrounding fibroblast cells to begin
making new collagen. By laying down a new layer of collagen in the skin,
the tissue is firmed and thickened and wrinkles begin to diminish. It
is important to remember that this new collagen production takes time
to get started and initial results will not be seen for about a month,
with the final result not being seen until about three months. Experience
has shown that the final result is significantly enhanced if three laser
treatments are performed approximately two to four weeks apart. As part
of our treatment protocol, we perform a microdermabrasion treatment
prior to the laser treatment. This microdermabrasion not only helps
smooth the skin surface, it removes the outer layer of dead skin cells,
thus allowing the laser pass more easily into the deeper layers of the
skin where it can work its effect on the micro blood vessels.
The development of skin wrinkles is a multifaceted
process that occurs with age as collagen and elastin fibers are lost within
the deeper layers of the skin. This loss can be accelerated by other factors
such as sun exposure, smoking, or dietary deficiencies. For these reasons,
we always emphasize the use of sun block, avoidance of smoking, and healthy
dietary habits. Wrinkle production is also greatly influenced by the actions
of our facial muscles. This can easily be seen by looking in the mirror
and smiling, frowning, or raising your eyebrows. You can observe how the
facial muscles produce creases (wrinkles) in the skin surface when those
muscles are activated (active wrinkles). Additional wrinkles are produced
as the skin thins with age, losing its elasticity (static wrinkles). Because
the action of facial muscles contributes to the production of wrinkles,
we urge people to consider combining the use of BOTOX® Cosmetic with
their NLite laser treatment so that facial muscle activity is diminished
while the laser begins the process of stimulating collagen. We offer financial
incentives to combine BOTOX® Cosmetic use with the NLite laser because
we feel that this enhances the results of the laser treatment. Other skin
care treatments such as the MicroLaserPeel, additional microdermabrasion
treatments, and Vitamin C products can also be used as part of a comprehensive
skin care program to give you beautiful, healthy looking skin. For more

Laser Hair Removal
At Puget
Sound Plastic Surgery, we understand that excess body hair can cause
embarrassment or self-consciousness. Our practice offers a new approach
to laser hair removal – the Sciton laser. Using targeted laser light
and computer-guide scanning, the Sciton laser can rapidly treat many hairs
at once. The hair removal laser works by selectively targeting microstructures
such as hair follicles. It is effective on lighter skin types and is safer
for treating darker skin types because of the low absorption of the light
by melanin. To successfully achieve long lasting hair removal, most patients
require five to six treatments approximately one month apart. Hair removal
typically is between 60 to 85 percent in the majority of patients. It
is a great alternative to shaving, especially in the bikini area and underneath
the arms.
