Board Certification
Today, a great deal of confusion exists about what it truly
means to be a “board certified” plastic surgeon.
In order to create an image of credibility, many physicians with little education
and training in plastic surgery will claim board certification
without indicating what board they are certified by, or they
will claim board certification by a board not recognized by
the American Board of Medical Specialties.
The American Board of Medical Specialties was created in 1933
to inform the public that a certified specialist has the approved
specialty education and training and passed a certifying examination,
assuring that he or she possesses the requisite skills to provide
quality care in that specialty.
The American Board of Plastic Surgery was established
as a major specialty board in 1941 and is the only board that provides
certification to plastic surgeons in the complete spectrum of plastic
surgery. To ensure that you receive the best care, make sure to
choose a plastic surgeon who is certified by the American
Board of Plastic Surgery.

Dr. Chung was blessed with a considerable degree of professional success in both Los Angeles and San Francisco areas before relocating to Puget Sound. Dr. Chung is continually recognized by his patients and peers as one of the most trusted, honest and competent physicians. His patients stem from all walks of life including many health care professionals (including other plastic surgeons), elected public servants, entertainers, athletes, and his personal favorite – the “moms.” Despite invitations to engage in a more "commercial" practice (television reality shows), Dr. Chung remains firmly committed to his number one professional priority: Providing the best medical care to his patients. Dr. Chung is cherished by his patients to be extremely personable, down-to-earth, and honest. Reflecting this, Dr. Chung “turns down” about quarter of all patients seen as he truly believes that surgery is not the best option for them.
Dr. Chung is a recipient of the following awards for community service:
County of Los Angeles Commendation
United States Special Congressional Recognition
The Character and Ethics Project Award
City of Glendale Mayor's Commendation
State of California Senate Certificate of Recognition
California Legislature Assembly Certificate of Recognition
Dr. Chung is supported by his wonderful wife (Nancy) and two daughters (Kyra and Aspen), and enjoys the outdoors and tennis. He also enjoys writing, and hopes to devote more time in future to writing historical fictions.
